Wireless Gigabit Ethernet (WiGig) is revolutionizing the Wifi networks. The market for data devices connected to a virtual access point is exploding and driving increased device packaging test complexity with data transmission speeds more than 50 times faster than the existing 802.11n devices. This next generation Wifi protocol operates in the unlicensed 57-64 GHz spectrum. This protocol will requires specialized interconnect contacting technologies with high band width, low noise, and finer pitch capabilities. This presentation will introduce WiGig, and competing technologies like Wireless HD and the device requirements driving new contacting technologies. Topics including channel to channel repeatability and isolation, and metal transmission vs over the air (OTA) will be discussed.
